Hello everyone, this is a big update from my side. Big since I have never worked on any other platform apart from Windows in my 10 years career. Its big since it would be a huge learning curve for me, and big as I am quite excited about learning something completely new. And the update is that I have installed Ubuntu on my personnel laptop. Ubuntu is also a flavor of Linux. I have enabled dual boot on my personal laptop to have Linux and windows both operating systems. In this article I will discuss why you should install Ubuntu on your system.
Top reasons why I went for Ubuntu
My curiosity about the Ubuntu started when I read an article about the benefits of open source. Here I will list some of the reasons which I considered while installing Ubuntu:
- I have a very old laptop around seven years old with 6 GB RAM. Though windows 10 is installed on it. But it takes around 10 mins to boot Windows 10 on this laptop. And if after all the patience the laptop boots it takes another 10 mins to open Visual Studio 15. And another 5 minutes to shut down once I am fed up with the previous process. It was huge waste of time and that is why I stopped using the laptop. It was simply lying there without any use.
- And once I installed Ubuntu the life is very easy. It boots within 1 minute and it is ready to use.
- Its mentioned that Ubuntu needs 2 GB RAM. Provided this my 6 GB RAM is a luxury for Ubuntu to run.
- Myself being a lover of C#, earlier it would have been difficult for me to program on Linux. But after release of .NETCore I can easily program on Linux with C#. Its a huge advantage being a .NET developer who wants to explore Linux world.
- Its all free. Yes its all very. I am very happy about this aspect of open source. Right for the Operating system to any other software like word, power point and excel equivalents are absolutely free.
- Most of the cloud servers useLinux operating systems. And since I am learning about cloud, it can be an added advantage of knowing Linux if you want to learn cloud.
- The other big advantage of the Linux OS is it works absolutely fine sans any type of anti virus. And hence the performance is very good.
Here I mentioned the benefits which I thought of before installing Ubuntu. If you think there are any other benefits or drawbacks of Linux OS, please leave them in comments.
